Research Center of Low Carbon Economy for Guangzhou Region (LCERC) is a key research center for the study of humanities and social sciences in Guangzhou. LCERC was evaluated and approved by the Guangzhou Municipal Social Science Planning Office in July 2015 and was rated as an Excellent Guangzhou Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Center in both the year of 2018 and 2020, as well as being selected as a source for China Think Tank Index (CTTI).

 Relying on three of the first-level majors of Jinan University, Business Administration, Theoretical Economics, Environmental Science and Engineering, LCERC aims to implement China’s carbon neutral strategy and serve the low-carbon economy of Guangzhou region. LCERC’s 4 research focuses: Carbon Neutrality and Carbon Peaking, Low-Carbon Economic Development, Green Financial Market and Corporate Environmental Management, as well as the positioning and characteristics of LCERC: intersection, research, international, and service, have all been well established during its development.

Relying on the three first-level disciplines of Business Administration, Theoretical Economics and Environmental Science and Engineering of Jinan University, LCERC aims to implement China's carbon neutrality strategy and serve the low-carbon economy in Guangzhou region, focusing on four research themes of carbon neutrality and carbon peak, low-carbon economic development, green financial market and enterprise environmental management. It has established the positioning and characteristics of intersections, tackling key problems, internationalism and service.

LCERC focuses on the latest development trends in the low-carbon field both locally and abroad, and actively conclude major practical needs of China, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, and Guangzhou’s low-carbon development strategy. Under the guidance of Guangzhou Social Science Planning Office and Jinan University, it has adopted standardized organizational structure by improving scientific research incentives, innovate systems and mechanisms, actively integrate academic resources, to achieve the goal of building a new type of think tank and government social service platform for low-carbon development in South China, providing rich and practical intellectual support for China to achieve the goal of double carbon and the construction of ecological civilization in Guangzhou, and has steadily increased its academic and social influence.
